Power and Performance
Three distinct trim levels named, DE, ES and GTS are available for 2009. The Lancer DE and ES trims share a 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC powerplant putting out 152-horsepower and 146/143 pound-feet of torque. The Lancer GTS comes equipped with a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder capable to produce 168 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, while a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is optional. All the models offer Lancer’s rally-inspired performance.
Body and Styling
The Lancer models feature aggressive styling with "shark-nosed" front-end treatment which is inspired by the air intakes on fighter jets. With thin angular head and tail lamps, aerodynamic body cladding, 16(DE and ES models) or 18 inch (GTS model) alloy wheels pushed to the corners, it looks as good as it works. Each of the Lancer trim offers great style and value. The ES offers Lancer’s comfort and convenience, and if you’re looking to make a statement, the new Sport Package for the ES trim line opens up new avenues of style. The high-end Lancer GTS offers more standard and available features along with advanced technology and refinement.
Safety Features
Lancer sets a new benchmark in passive safety by offering driver's side knee airbag as a part of its seven-airbag safety system. Advanced dual-stage front airbags, driver and passenger side-impact airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags are standard on all Lancers. Other standard safety features include Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH), three-point seatbelt and head restraints.
